2001 Alumnus of the Year - Larry Carr

by Chris Worley - Membership Director May 30, 2001 07:53

Larry started out in the United States Army in 1969 and by the time he retired in 1992, he was a Lieutenant Colonel.  During his time with the US Army, he was instrumental in the development of the strategic architecture for the deployment of the US Army intelligence and security organizations in Europe.

He then entered civilian life as a Project Manager for Automation Research Systems and helped develop the plan for the Pacific Bell Data Centers relocation into the Fairfield Data Facility.

Larry then worked as a Political consultant helping candidates for local school board and city council positions in the mid 1990's.

From 1997 through 2001 he was the Senior Army Instructor for Sacramento High School Junior ROTC.  He also coordinated programs between the UC Davis, CSUS and Sacramento HS.

In 1999 Larry was elected board member and board president for SMUD.  This is the 5th largest publicly owned utility in the United States.  Larry represented over 150,000 rate payers.

And now just recently, Larry has taken over the reins of the Florin Road Partnership.  He is hoping that the master’s degree in business administration he received from UCLA will come in handy for his work in this area.
